There are numerous narrations which state various different numbers of the Ambiya (‘alayhimus salam) that were sent to this world. There are approximately 124,000 Prophets were sent, but the Holy Quran mentions the names of only 25 of them. The narrations which discuss the various numbers of Ambiya (‘alayhimus salam) can be found in the following books:

2) Musnad Ahmad, vol. 5 pg. 178 and pg. 266

3) Musnad Abu Ya’la, Hadith: 4132

 

 

Out of approximately 124,000 Prophets of Islam, Quran mentions the names of only 25 as explained below;

1- Prophet Adam عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 25 times in the Quran.

With regard to the place where they came down on earth, the Qur’aan does not say anything about it, and there is no saheeh, marfoo‘ hadeeth in the Sunnah of the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) which explains that.

Despite that, the scholarly opinions concerning this matter differ.

Some of them said: Adam came down in India and Hawwa’ came down in Jeddah.

Some of them said that they both came down in India.

Some of them said that Adam came down in a land between Makkah and al-Taa’if called Dahna.

Some of them said that Adam came down on al-Safa and Hawwa’ came down on al-Marwah.

He was sent down to earth in 4004 BC and died in 3074 BC at the age of 930 years. He is buried in Makkah.

2- Prophet Idris عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 2 times in the Quran. Idris (also called Enoch) was born in Babylon. Prophet Idris was born in 3382 BC in present-day Iraq and died in 2517 BC at the age of 865 years. He adhered to the rules and teachings of Prophet Seth, and when he came of age, he received the Revelation and Allah (SWT) bestowed prophethood upon him. Idris left Babylon after he witnessed the people committing sins despite his warnings not to. Some people joined Idris and they left Babylon, arriving in Egypt. Idris spent a great deal of time preaching, worshipping and researching his ancestors, Adam and Eve. He is believed to have possessed great wisdom and was the first man to use a pen to write. 

3- Prophet Noah عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ in mentioned 43 times in Quran. He was born in 2948 BC in present-day Iraq and died in 1998 BC at the age of 950 years. His grave is in Jordan.

4- Prophet Hud عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 7 times in the Quran. Prophet Hud was born in 2283 BC in present-day Iraq and died around 1819 BC at the age of 464 years. He is buried in Yemen.

5- Prophet Saleh عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 9 times in the Quran. He was born in 2083 BC in present-day Saudi Arabia. His grave is in Oman.

6- Prophet Ibrahim عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 69 times in the Holy Quran. Prophet Ibrahim was born in 1996 BC in present-day Iraq and died in 1821 BC at the age of 175 years. He is buried in Palestine.

The prophet Ibrahim is buried in Hebron, a lively market city of over 200,000 in the West Bank, with nearly a third of Palestine’s economy and a small, heavily-guarded Jewish community. For centuries, Jews were generally not allowed to worship here. Then, after the Israeli victory in the War of 1967, the space was shared by Jews and Muslims. But during a Muslim service in 1994, an Israeli settler entered here with his gun, and killed 29 Palestinian worshippers. Since then, this holy space has been divided — emblematic of the difficult challenges that permeate the Holy Land.

7- Prophet Lut عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 27 times in the Quran. Prophet Lut was born in 1980 BC in present-day Iraq and died in 1805 BC at the age of 175 years. His grave is in Palestine.

8- Prophet Ismail عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 12 times in the Quran. Prophet Ismail was born in 1910 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 1774 BC at the age of 136 years. He is buried in Makkah.

9- Prophet Ishaq عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 17 times in the Quran. Prophet Ishaq was born in 1896 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 1716 BC at the age of 180 years. He is buried in Palestine.

10- Prophet Yaqub عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 16 times in the Holy Quran. Prophet Yaqub was born in 1836 BC and died in 1689 BC at the age of 147 years. He is buried in Palestine.

11- Prophet Yusuf عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 27 times in the Holy Quran. Prophet Yusuf was born in 1747 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 1637 BC at the age of 110 years. He is buried in Palestine.

12- Prophet Ayub عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 4 times in the Holy Quran. Prophet Ayub was born in 1630 BC in present-day Oman and died in 1537 BC at the age of 93 years. His grave is in Oman.

13- Prophet Shoaib عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 11 times in the holy Quran. Prophet Shoaib was born in the 15th century BC. He is buried in Palestine.

14- Prophet Harun عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 20 times in the Quran.  Prophet Harun was born in 1361 BC in present-day Egypt and died in 1238 BC at the age of 123 years. His tomb is in Jordan.

15- Prophet Musa عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 136 times in the Holy Quran. Prophet Musa was born in 1356 BC in present-day Egypt and died in 1236 BC at the age of 120 years. His grave is in Palestine.

16- Hazrat Talut عليه السلام  name is mentioned 2 times in the Quran. King Talut was born in 1100 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 1010 BC at the age of 90 years. He is buried in Palestine.

17- Hazrat Luqman عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 2 times in the Holy Quran. He was born in 1100 BC in present-day Egypt.

18- Prophet Dawud عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 16 times in the Quran. Prophet Dawud was born in 1040 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 970 BC at the age of 70 years. He is buried in Palestine.

19- Prophet Sulaiman عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 17 times in the Quran. Prophet Sulaiman was born in 990 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 931 BC at the age of 59 years.

20- Prophet Yunus عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 5 times in the Holy Quran. Prophet Yunus was born in the 9th century BC in present-day Palestine and died in the 8th century BC at the age of 120 years. His grave is in Iraq.

21- Prophet Al-Yasa عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 2 times in the Holy Quran. Prophet Al-Yasa was born in 910 BC in present-day Jordan and died in 800 BC at the age of 110 years. He is buried in Turkey.

22- Prophet Elias عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 3 times in the Quran. Prophet Elias was born in 900 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 849 BC at the age of 51 years.

23- Prophet Dhul-Kifl عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 2 times in the Quran. Prophet Dhul-Kifl was born in 840 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 765 BC at the age of 75 years. He is buried in Iraq.

24- Hazrat Dhul-Qarnayn عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 3 times in the Holy Quran. He was born in 590 BC in present-day Iran and died in 530 BC at the age of 60 years. His tomb is in Iran.

25- Prophet Uzair عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 1 time in the Quran. Prophet Uzair was born in 480 BC in present-day Iraq and died in 440 BC at the age of 40 years. His grave is in Iraq.

26- Prophet Zakariya عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 7 times in the Quran. Prophet Zakariya was born in 97 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 33 AD at the age of 130 years. He is buried in Syria.

27- Prophet Yahya عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 5 times in the Quran. Prophet Yahya was born in 5 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 36 AD at the age of 42 years. His grave is in Syria.

28- Prophet Isa عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ name is mentioned 25 times in the Quran. Prophet Isa was born in 4 BC in present-day Palestine and was taken to the heavens in 26 AD at the age of 30 years.

29- Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is mentioned 17 times in the Quran with 14 different names. He was born in 570 AD and died in 632 AD at the age of 63 years. He is buried in Madina, Saudi Arabia.

Many scholars are of the opinion that Luqman, Dhul-Qarnayn, and Talut were not prophets.

 

There are several names of Prophets and Good men mentioned in Hadith as well as other Islamic scripture. We have listed them here;

 

30- Hazrat Sheeth عليه السلام was born in 3874 BC in present-day Lebanon and died in 2962 BC at the age of 912 years. His grave is in Lebanon.

31- Hazrat Shem عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ was born in 2205 BC and died in 1605 BC at the age of 600 years.

32- Hazrat Ham عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ was born in 2204 BC. His grave is in Pakistan.

33- Hazrat Japeth عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ was born around 2203 BC.

34- Hazrat Hanzalah Ibn Safwan عليه السلام was born around 2150 BC in present-day Yemen.

35- Hazrat Khidr عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ lived during the time of Prophet Musa i.e. around 1350 BC.

36- Prophet Yusha bin Nun عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ – Joshua was born in 1336 BC in present-day Egypt and died in 1209 BC at the age of 127 years. His grave is in Jordan.

37- Hazrat Shumail عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ (Samuel) was born in 1154 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 1012 BC at the age of 142 years. He is buried in Palestine.

38- Hazrat Isaiah عليه السلام was born in the 8th century BC in present-day Palestine and died somewhere in the 7th century BC at the age of 75 years.

39- Hazrat Armiya عليه السلام was born in 650 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 570 BC at the age of 80 years.

40- Hazrat Daniyal عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ (Daniel) was born around 640 BC in present-day Palestine and died around 540 BC when he was 100+ years old. His grave is in Iran.

41- Hazrat Hizqeel عليه السلام was born in 622 BC in present-day Palestine and died in 570 BC at the age of 52 years. He is buried in Iraq.
